Ayan (2009) Ayngaran DVD5 DTS

Cast: Surya, Tamanna, Prabhu and others
Music: Haris Jeyaraj
Director: K V Aanand
Producer: AVM
Audio format: Dolby Digital & DTS
Video format : All regions [With English Subtitles]

The multi-billion rupee question sought to be answered through the slickly made "Ayan" is which smuggled commodity is a lesser evil from the nation's point of view - untaxed diamonds or harmful narcotics.

Else, there is nothing more to look out for other than chases, fisticuffs and some romance. "Ayan" has a highly predictable start, middle and climax as far as the storyline, screenplay and dialogues are concerned.

The male protagonist Deva (Surya) works as a courier for a north Chennai-based smuggler Das (Prabhu).

A friend's sister played by Tamanna is the hero's love-interest and she brings relief from the violence through her song and dance sequences.

The tale is as old as time, full of vendetta copied from the days of Mario Puzo's "Godfather" onwards.

The filming, excellent cinematography, taut storytelling methods and Surya's spirited performance are highlights of the movie, which has been made as an out-an-out commercial venture.

There are no surprises anywhere except some of the hitherto unknown shooting locales perfectly canned by M.S. Prabhu. Harris Jayaraj's music score is a wee bit more than passing muster.

The generous promos on television are likely to bring in the crowds and give the producers and distributors their money's worth.

Maayandi Kudumbathar (2009) ~ ~ X264 ~ AAC ~ 1 CD

Mayandi Kudumbathar, set in a remote Madurai village, is an emotional movie banking on strong family sentiments. The movie portrays fraternal love with high esteem and underlines the importance of families staying together.

The film has a decent storyline and a competent screenplay. All the directors, who have donned the 10 important characters, have got adequate scope to prove their mettle.
The storyline goes like this: Manivannan (Mayandi) and G M Kumar (Virumaandi) are brothers who part ways because of a property dispute. Mayandi’s sons Virumaandi (Seeman), Ponvannan (Thavasi), Cheenichamy (Jegan) and Paraman (Tharun Gopi) stay together as a happy family.
Meanwhile, Virumaandi’s sons Sokkan (Ravi Maria), Chinnu (Nandha Periyasamy) want to take revenge on Mayandi and sons. After Mayandhi’s death, Paraman is ill-treated by his brothers’ wives. So much so that Paraman has to walks out of the family at one point of time. Later, he fulfils his father’s dream by completing his graduation and getting a job.

As movie goes on, Virumandi’s family resurfaces to settle scores with Paraman and his brothers. The predictable reunion happens at the end.
Director Tharun Gopi, plays the lead role with conviction. He has done well in portraying rustic youth. Mani Vannan, Mayilsamy and Illavarasu among others are impressive, while Seeman, Jagan, Ravi Maria, Pon Vannan, Nandha Periyasamy, Raj Kapoor, and Singam Puli have done their respective part well.
Sabesh Murali’s music goes with the mood of the movie.
Though the director has done well in selecting a poignant subject related to family unity, he could have gone for something new to underline the need of unity. The story of two warring families with the backdrop of 80's is quite old. The characters too are clichéd.

While we could appreciate the honest attempt by Madhuravan, we have to say that the plot and the script could have been lot more gripping.

Nadodigal (2009) Original PDVDRIP

Production: Global Infotainment Pvt Ltd
Direction: Samuthirakkani
Star-casts: Sasi Kumar, Abhinaya, Anaya, Vijay Vasanth, Bharani, Ganja Karuppu and many others.
Music: Sundar C பாபு

From the team of ‘Subramaniapuram’, here comes another piece of recital. Bombastically presented, the film is sure to score 10/10 amongst all centres. Sasi Kumar has the best regards as he steals the show with his pleasant presence and stunning performance. Director Samuthirakkani makes a spellbinding debut on silver screen.
The film is about group of friends: Karuna (Sasi Kumar), Chandran (Vijay Vasanth) and Pandian (Bharani of Kalloori fame). They lead a happy life with jovial family and their sweethearts are so kind enough affectionate to them. But bizarre of events strike through their friend Saravanan who comes all the way from Namakkal…

Being son of Ex-MP, he’s so distressed with his girlfriend’s father separating them. Sooner, the friends set out to unite them. However, they are accomplished with the venture; they’ve lost many things physically as well mentally. There is no peace, joy and moreover their future looks so dark now. But they’re satisfied on giving hand for the young couple though they’ve lost many instead…

Nevertheless, what would be their reaction when they get to know that the young couple aren’t staying together anymore and ready for divorcing. They’re more frustrated now and have got to prove something. Sasi Kumar excels stupendously emoting to every situation. On the pars, Vijay Vasanth does a commendable job. Bharani of Kalloori fame turns the spotlight on him.
Ganja Karuppu on his part does work out best humors. The two actresses Anaya and Abhinaya are cool enough with good characterizations. Musical score by Sundar C Babu is enchanting and especially the song ‘Sambo Siva Sambo’ has good picturing.

On the whole, Don’t miss this film for it’s a sure winner of this season.

Vaamanan(2009) HQ PDVDRIP Tamil

According to the Hindu mythology Vamanan is a character who is small in nature but has done some mighty deeds. Taking a cue from this, debutant director Anand has cast young actor Jai in his thriller film about a young man who faces several problems, but manages to comes out on the top at the end.

The film starts with the shooting of a commercial where Vinodh is the cameraman and top model Pooja (Lakshmi Rai) poses for him. A remote operated camera placed in a small helicopter captures the entire shoot. Then at one point time, the helicopter loses control and gets stuck in a tree in a neighboring farm house. Then whole crew sets out in search of the small helicopter and finally they locates it.Even when the helicopter was struck the camera which was attached to it was recording.

After when the helicopter was removed and they saw the video what the camera recorded and were totally shocked to see the footage of a state minister’s murder(Delhi Ganesh) by another minister Anbu Chezhian (Sampath).Mean while, Anand (Jai) who aspires to become an actor comes to the city from his village and stays with his childhood friend (Santhanam), who work as a cameraman with a famous TV channel. Anand’s efforts to enter tinsel town prove futile, and he meets Divya (debutant Priya) in a railway station and falls in love with her.

One day, Anand meets John (Rahman) at the station and is impressed by the way John catches a chain snatcher and sooner they become friends. He also meets Pooja and becomes friend with her in the hope of getting a break in films.Later it’s revealed that minister Anbu has a close connection with the Commissioner of Police, Kailasam (Thalaivasal Vijay) and then find that Vinodh has the tape. Then Anbu and Kailasam’s men kill Vinodh, but fail to find the tape. They then turn to Pooja, who is eventually killed and the blame falls on Anand, who has been betrayed by John. After a series of chase scenes to find the tape, Anand finally manages to locate it. How he hands over the tape to the former CoP (producer Ravendran in a cameo) forms the rest of the movie.

Vamanan is Jai’s first movie as a solo hero, after his roles in Chennai-28 and Subramaniyapuram. Though he manages to impress with his natural expressions, his conscious effort to imitate mass heroes like Vijay and Simbhu is easilyunderstood and with her girl-next-door looks, Priya is just above adequate. Santhanam’s comedy is superb. The movie’s highpoint is Aravindh Krishna’s cinematography, which captures Chennai in fresh and different tones. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs are very mediocre.

The major drawback is that the screenplay lacks the punch of a thriller. However, the last half-an-hour of the film, leading up to the climax has been well executed.

Aanantha Vikatan Rating:
