Maayandi Kudumbathar (2009) ~ ~ X264 ~ AAC ~ 1 CD

Mayandi Kudumbathar, set in a remote Madurai village, is an emotional movie banking on strong family sentiments. The movie portrays fraternal love with high esteem and underlines the importance of families staying together.

The film has a decent storyline and a competent screenplay. All the directors, who have donned the 10 important characters, have got adequate scope to prove their mettle.
The storyline goes like this: Manivannan (Mayandi) and G M Kumar (Virumaandi) are brothers who part ways because of a property dispute. Mayandi’s sons Virumaandi (Seeman), Ponvannan (Thavasi), Cheenichamy (Jegan) and Paraman (Tharun Gopi) stay together as a happy family.
Meanwhile, Virumaandi’s sons Sokkan (Ravi Maria), Chinnu (Nandha Periyasamy) want to take revenge on Mayandi and sons. After Mayandhi’s death, Paraman is ill-treated by his brothers’ wives. So much so that Paraman has to walks out of the family at one point of time. Later, he fulfils his father’s dream by completing his graduation and getting a job.

As movie goes on, Virumandi’s family resurfaces to settle scores with Paraman and his brothers. The predictable reunion happens at the end.
Director Tharun Gopi, plays the lead role with conviction. He has done well in portraying rustic youth. Mani Vannan, Mayilsamy and Illavarasu among others are impressive, while Seeman, Jagan, Ravi Maria, Pon Vannan, Nandha Periyasamy, Raj Kapoor, and Singam Puli have done their respective part well.
Sabesh Murali’s music goes with the mood of the movie.
Though the director has done well in selecting a poignant subject related to family unity, he could have gone for something new to underline the need of unity. The story of two warring families with the backdrop of 80's is quite old. The characters too are clichéd.

While we could appreciate the honest attempt by Madhuravan, we have to say that the plot and the script could have been lot more gripping.
